App of the Week – F.lux

Published on November 4, 2015

Have you ever noticed when people use their computers at night, their screens bathe them in a strange blue glow? Kind of like they are being sucked into a tractor beam from a 1950’s UFO movie?

Unfortunately, that night-time exposure to blue light can keep you from falling asleep. In fact, research suggests that an average person using their computer a couple hours before bed may find that their sleep is delayed by about an hour.

As the old saying goes, there’s an app for that!

F.lux is designed to make your eyes feel a little more comfortable while working on your computer.

The application regulates your exposure to blue light by automatically adjusting your display’s warmth and color settings so that it looks like daylight during the day, and a dim jazz lounge after dark.

F.lux is free and available for OS X, Windows, and Linux. Download it and sleep well.
