App of the Week – Pillow

Published on June 15, 2015

Get more sleep with Pillow - the app that keeps you "sleep accountable."

Designed to turn your iPhone into a sleep tracker, this app knows whether "going to bed" actually means you're sleeping at 11:30, or checking Twitter from 11:30-1:00am, and then sleeping.

The functionality is fairly simple. Open up your app before you go to bed, set a wake up time, write some notes about your day (if you wish), click start, and slide your phone under the pillow. Then go about your sleeping as usual.

Pillow will then use your iPhone motion sensors to track your movement throughout the evening, identifying the moments at night when you're tossing and turning, as well as moments of deep sleep and REM sleep.

The accuracy may be debatable, especially in the face of EEG products like the new Kokoon headphones. However, for a free app (with an optional premium update for $4.99) this sleep app can make a good budget sleep tracking app.
