App of the Week – WifiMapper

Published on May 13, 2015

Finding all the free Wi-Fi hotspots in your area has gotten easier, thanks to this new crowdsourcing app - WifiMapper.

This app has directly developed out of London-based startup Opensignal, who already houses a plethora of existing data that could very easily save plenty of users on data overcharges. This data maps out all public areas that offer free Internet access - Starbucks, your local library, the corner pub, anywhere.

Like any crowdsourcing app, the app thrives on involvement and community feedback. Wifi hotspots can be added by members of the WifiMapper community, and ranked by users by marking if they're free or not.

The app is available for iPhone, and the Android release appears to be on the way (though not quite ready yet). Check it out for yourself!
