Gadget of the Week – Phantom 3 Professional Drone

Published on December 16, 2015

The consumer drone market is starting to boom, and affordable drones are filling the sky.

Government regulations have eased since their emergence and the industry is experiencing some seriously rapid growth. If you fancy yourself as even the most passive gizmo and gadget lover, you should think about buying a drone, if only to familiarize yourself with this fascinating and rapidly blooming technology. (And, of course, you'll earn bragging rights as being a first-generation drone owner.)

But which drone should you buy? Our favorite - the Phantom 3 Professional - comes from DJI, a Chinese startup.

DJI is, beyond question, the most popular producer of consumer drones in the world. The Phantom 3 Professional is the company's flagship model, which flies through the air via an easy-to-use remote and records stabilized 4K footage with a wide-angle lens.

The startup struck the right chord with this one. The drone is powerful enough for professionals in any field, but easy enough for the recreational user to enjoy straight out of the box. The Phantom 3 Professional includes GPS navigation with auto takeoffs and auto landings, intelligent high power flight battery, a built-in safety database of no fly zones, and a mobile app for your iOS or Android device.

An interesting example about one of those no-fly zones: DJI has locked the Phantom 3 Professional from being able to even start the motor if you are within a 15 mile radius of the White House. So no trying to sneak a peek into the Oval Office.

If you have been looking to get in the drone game, this is king of the castle and a seriously cool aerial camera system. Learn more about DJI and the Phantom 3 Professional here.
