Gadget of the Week – MOTA DOI SmartRing
Published on March 23, 2016

J.R.R. Tolkien famously wrote about the “one ring to rule them all” in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Well, there’s a real-life ring of power coming to the market, and, rather than making its wearer invisible, it promises to connect them to the world in a way we’ve never quite seen before.
The MOTA DOI SmartRing – the buzziest standout in the growing field of wearable tech – promises to let its wearer receive all of their notifications without ever having to check a smartphone (or watch!)
Users can program their ring to sync up with their Apple or Android phone using low energy Bluetooth 4.0 technology and the SmartRing companion app; from there, the wearer can fine-tune and set what notifications they’d like to receive, whether it’s texts, social media updates, phone calls, or meeting notifications. When something comes in, the ring will subtly vibrate, letting you know there’s a notification waiting.
Wearers can scroll through alerts and texts on the ring itself, or simply set up specific alerts for key contacts, so they know who’s trying to reach them without having to check a screen. The DOI SmartRing boasts a battery life of 24 to 72 hours, along with easy wireless charging.
It’s easy to see why smart rings may be the next big wave in wearable tech: Intuitive and unobtrusive, they make sense for busy professionals or anyone who wants the instant connectivity of a smartphone without the constant need to keep their eyes glued to a screen.
Want to stay on top of your notifications – and the next big tech trend? The good news is that you won’t need to trek all the way to Mount Doom to do it! The MOTA DOI SmartRing is set to debut in April and is currently available for pre-order for $200 through MOTA’s site.
