The Death of EMail… or Is It?
Published on August 19, 2013

The impending doom of email has long been anticipated, especially with the omni-presence of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
The rumors of email's death, however, are still greatly exaggerated.
According to DashBurst, email is still the preferred method of communication by most companies, and 94% of Americans older than 12 say they still use e-mail regularly. It remains the most direct way for companies to reach their customer, 64% of companies indicating that their organizations investments in e-mail are expected to increase in 2013. This isn't that surprising, considering e-mail generates a 2X return compared to other channels - every dollar spent on e-mail in 2011 yielded a $40.56 return.
So, how do you create engaging emails?
Here are 5 tips from Dashburst.
- Be Trustworthy
- Use trustworthy marketing platforms, such as MailChimp, Constant Contact, and Awber.
- Maintain transparency. Be honest and accessible.
- Always have an unsubscribe button (as it is required by the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003)
- Be Conversational
Your email shouldn't feel like an advertisement. Add personal touches (fresh, original content is the most fantastic way to do so - like on your blog!) - Be Relevant
Make sure your information is informative and worthwhile. Your audience should know what you're offering, and what it is that you do well. - Be Coordinated Across Channels
Have your email easily reachable/sharable with other networking channels, including social media sites (like Facebook and Twitter) and direct sharing (email forwards and word-of-mouth). - Be Strategic
Have a goal and a message with your campaign. Send them out with a purpose to maintain clarity.
